2019 IECA Annual Conference Issues Call For Abstracts


The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) is now accepting abstracts for the IECA Annual Conference, Feb. 19–22, 2019, in Denver, Colorado, the association said in an April 20, 2018, press release.


IECA said it is accepting abstracts for sessions including case studies, technical papers, workshops, industry roundtables, fireside chats, Mountain States-related sessions, posters, product case studies and 20-minute sessions.


The intent of IECA’s educational programs is to provide peer-reviewed content free from advertising or commercial bias, IECA said. Instructors must refrain from advertising or promoting their employer or other vendor’s product, company information, or any other organization represented during their presentations unless they are presenting a product practicum.


IECA said it recommends the following subject areas and suggested topics, which correlate to the association’s learning objectives:


Erosion and sediment control


Managing soil for vegetative establishment, wildfire remediation, dust control/soil stabilization, arid and semiarid climates: building soils and vegetation establishment, steep slope stabilization, solar and wind farms: Impacts and lessons learned, innovative BMPs/research and development, soil regeneration for sustainable vegetation and erosion control, effective BMP inspection methods, mine reclamation, road rehabilitation, erosion and sediment control practices in the oil/gas industry


Stormwater management


Porous pavements (revival and maintenance), green roofs and blue roofs, underground systems, treating whole flow versus first flush in compliance with Clean Water Act, sediment and turbidity TMDLs, non-point source pollution planning and implementation, stream monitoring TMDL alternative plans, postconstruction stormwater management, SWPPP design and implementation, trash TMDLs, BMP long-term operation and maintenance strategies, watershed rehabilitation, green infrastructure, stormwater runoff reduction, low-impact development (LID) technologies, stormwater BMP remediation/retrofit applications, the future of stormwater conveyance


Wetland, streambank and shoreline restoration


Hydromodification modeling, control, and mitigation; shoreline stabilization; streambank stabilization; constructed wetlands for stormwater treatment; revegetation options and management; riverine/estuarine/lacustrine restoration


MS4 management


MS4 program adaptive management/goals, industrial stormwater management, training and enforcement; stormwater monitoring: illicit discharge, detection and elimination
